IPL FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

WHAT IS IPL SKIN REJUVENATION?

IPL (Intense Pulsed Light) skin rejuvenation is a light-based aesthetic treatment that actively targets and reduces skin irregularities to promote a clearer, younger and healthier complexion.

Such conditions as age spots, sun spots, freckles, superficial capillaries and other unsightly discolouration of the skin can be eliminated using this technology.  IPL is also incredibly effective for those of us who suffer from Rosacea and can even stimulate fibroblast causing increased collagen production in your skin for a more natural, lively, healthier looking you!

HOW DOES IT WORK?

A fully trained therapist will apply a specially designed hand piece to your treatment area and generate rapid light pulses of variable wavelengths, which will be absorbed by the targeted chromophores (such as melanin in pigmentation or freckles) in your skin. The light from the hand piece is delivered at high intensity during a very short period of time.

It is this rapid emitting of light that provides the high energy levels required for each IPL treatment to be effective! The light is converted into heat energy which destroys the targeted area through controlled thermal damage, while ensuring surrounding healthy tissue remains untouched.

WHAT CAN BE TREATED WITH IPL SYSTEMS?

GBG trained therapists offer a range of cost effective and professional treatments including:

Permanent hair reduction

The elimination of sun spots, freckles and other skin discolouration

Removal of vascular legions

Skin rejuvenation

Acne reduction

WHO IS SUITABLE FOR IPL?

Most people can have IPL treatments

Your trained therapist should be able to determine your suitability

Consult your Doctor if you are not sure

People who have been tanning or have dark skin may be more prone to risk.

ARE IPL TREATMENTS PAINFUL?

IPL treatments do not hurt, but you may feel a slight sensation of discomfort with each application throughout the treatment. This sensation will reduce as the area being treated responds to the therapy. There is no desensitisation is required.

We will take care to ensure your experience is as comfortable as possible.

HOW MANY TREATMENTS WILL I NEED?

This will vary depending on the severity of your skin concern. Some may require a single treatment, while others will require ongoing treatments to achieve the best possible results.

Below is a rough guide for each application

Permanent hair reduction:

6 - 8 treatments spaced four to six weeks apart

Sun spot reduction:

4 - 6 treatments spaced four weeks apart

Vascular lesions:

4 - 6 treatments spaced two to three weeks apart

Skin rejuvenation:

4 - 6 treatments spaced four weeks apart

Acne treatments:

May be ongoing weekly or fortnightly

Your clinician will discuss the expected number of treatments, along with expected results during your consultation.

IS THERE ANY DOWNTIME OR SIDE EFFECTS AFTER TREATMENT?

Unlike other skin-corrective treatments, IPL skin rejuvenation requires no downtime so you are free to get on with your day as usual. A minimum of four weeks is required before treated areas can be exposed to sunlight. Short term effects are possible.

Some temporary redness may occur, but this will pass soon enough. We will advise you on the necessary post-treatment care to follow during your session.

ARE THE RESULTS LONG-LASTING?

Most clients enjoy long-lasting results following their IPL program. To ensure optimal skin health and clarity for the long run, a maintenance treatment can be performed if necessary.

If you are a new customer please call to book in a skin test at least 24 hours prior to your first treatment.
